The White Post Special
Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
Ans: I am Anil Sunny, a professional musician from Lahore, specializing in the tabla, though I also play other instruments like the harmonium and enjoy singing. I was born in 1986, making me about 38 years old. In the music world, I am known as “Sunny Jimmy.” My mentor, Ustad Jimmy, trained me from childhood, and I feel proud to carry his name as part of my own.
Q: Have you played the tabla for Pakistan’s national anthem?

Ans: I admire Hariharan, an amazing artist from India, and I wish to work with him someday.
Q: Over your 30-year journey, is there any significant incident that stands out?
Ans: In 2005, I had an accident and broke my leg, requiring me to walk with a stick for about two years. Thankfully, I recovered. Another significant incident was three years ago when my younger sister’s husband passed away. Such events age a person prematurely.
Q: There are many organizations worldwide working for the betterment and support of artists. What are your thoughts on this?
Ans: In our country, artists are not valued. No institution is doing anything significant for us. Many in these institutions have no knowledge of music. Even within organizations that are working, favoritism is prevalent. Despite my efforts on a community basis, I received no support. I just want a stipend for artists and for institutions to support us, perhaps on a quota basis, providing plots and other assistance.

Ans: Yes, I have a YouTube channel under my real name, Anil Sunny.
