National Dialogue Forum (NDF) in partnership with National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), and The Asia Foundation, hosted “Hum Hain Pakistani,” a community event in Punjab. Designed to promote tolerance and peace, the event welcomed 180 participants representing various religions, ethnicities, and genders, alongside representatives from the organizing bodies.
The program began at 12 PM with a unique recitation of Holy scriptures from the Holy Quran, Bible, and Geeta, symbolizing respect for diverse religious practices.
NDF representative Mr. Hassaan in his talk, emphasized upon the importance of fostering a harmonious society through mutual understanding and respect across diverse groups.
A key highlight of the event was a theater performance by the Makhoty team under the direction of Mr. Sibte Hassan. Through four compelling scenes, the play examined critical societal challenges. The first scene illustrated divisions within the same religion based on sectarian differences, highlighting how these divisions, driven by misinterpretations of religious teachings, foster discrimination and isolation.
The second scene explored stereotypes and prejudices among various ethnic and provincial groups. It addressed issues like the superiority complex and conflicts over resource distribution, calling for unity and understanding.
The third scene tackled the dangers of religious extremism and mob violence. A gripping narrative showcased how misinformation and intolerance can lead to tragic consequences, urging the audience to adopt rational thinking.
The final scene exposed the misuse of power by influential individuals to exploit women and minorities.
It underscored the importance of addressing systemic inequalities and fostering a culture of accountability and respect.
The event concluded with an interactive session where participants shared their learnings and perspectives. Discussions revolved around building relationships across ethnic, religious, and gender divides and the role of communities in fostering peace and social cohesion.
The theater performance combined storytelling, emotions, and visual elements to deeply engage the audience, making complex societal issues relatable. It challenged stereotypes, highlighted the consequences of division, and inspired empathy. By the end of the event, attendees were encouraged to take collective action toward a more inclusive and harmonious society.
