A two-member delegation from the British High Commission, comprising Political Counsellor Zoe Ware and Second Secretary for Human Rights Victoria Herbert, met with the Church of Pakistan Moderator and Bishop of Raiwind Diocese, His Grace Bishop Azad Marshall, at the Diocese of Raiwind Head Office in Lahore on July 22.
The meeting was also attended by the Bishop of Sialkot Diocese, Rt Rev Alvin Samuel; the Bishop of Faisalabad Diocese, Rt Rev Aleem Anwar; Salvation Army Territorial Commander Colonel McDonald Chandi; Presbyterian Church of Pakistan’s Executive Secretary, Rev Dr Majeed Abel; and other diocesan officials.
The discussions focused on the challenges facing minority communities in Pakistan, including the rise in religiously-motivated mob violence, misuse of blasphemy laws, and the forced conversion and marriages of underage Christian girls. Church leaders highlighted the need for academic scholarships for deserving minority students to aid in the socio-economic development of marginalized communities.
The British High Commission delegation acknowledged the advocacy efforts of the church and assured their support for education, health, and other community development projects.
