Peshawar: Jamshed Thomas, a Christian former Member of the National Assembly (MNA) of Pakistan representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on a minority reserved seat, has passed away in Belgium following a critical head injury sustained in an accidental fall at his residence.
According to sources close to the family, Thomas reportedly felt dizzy before falling down the stairs at his home. He sustained a severe injury to the back of his head and was placed on ventilator support in the intensive care unit. Despite days of medical care, he remained in a coma and passed away earlier today.
Thomas had been living in Belgium with his wife and two sons. Originally from Peshawar, he spent his childhood and student life in the city’s Mohalla Tail Godam neighborhood, where he maintained strong ties with the local Christian community.
Following the news of his passing, a large number of people have been visiting his family house in Mohalla Tail Godam to offer condolences. The residence is currently being attended by his three brothers and three sisters. Jamshed Thomas was the fourth among the brothers.
He served in the National Assembly from 2018 to 2023 and was widely recognized for his work on minority rights, religious freedom, and social justice.
As of now, the final funeral arrangements are yet to be decided and will be announced by the family in the coming hours.
Messages of condolence have poured in from political leaders, civil society, and Christian communities across Pakistan and abroad, remembering Thomas as a humble and committed public servant.
