In a troubling development, local police have declined to register a case regarding the alleged abduction and forced marriage of Sania Amin, a 13-year-old Christian girl from Sailkot. Despite her family’s desperate pleas, law enforcement officials have opted not to pursue the matter, citing Sania’s reported conversion to Islam and subsequent marriage as justification for their inaction.

The distressing incident unfolded on April 4th when Sania Amin vanished while out purchasing groceries. Her father, Amin Masih, recalled the harrowing moment he received a call from his other daughter, alerting him to Sania’s disappearance. Witnesses in the community reported seeing three Muslim boys, including Saif Ali, forcibly dragging Sania through the streets.

Seeking help for his daughter’s recovery, Amin Masih approached the local police station in Sadder, Sialkot, but was reportedly met with refusal. Despite persistent efforts to register the missing girl’s case, including a raid on the alleged kidnappers’ residence, the police allegedly declined to take action.

Rather than launching a thorough investigation, the police chose not to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the alleged perpetrator, Saif Ali. Their rationale rested on the assertion that Sania had converted to Islam and married Saif Ali, thereby absolving them of any obligation to pursue the case further.

Despite Amin’s persistence and mounting evidence of foul play, including documents purportedly showing Sania’s coerced conversion to Islam and marriage to Saif Ali, the authorities remained unmoved, refusing to intervene based on the circumstances of the alleged marriage.

Amin, residing in Anjotar village of Sailkot with his wife, two unmarried daughters, and a son, earns a livelihood through a modest home-based business stitching footballs.

Local activist Adil Ghouri has condemned the handling of the Sania case, stating that it represents a clear violation of the underage marriage act and constitutes a crime. Ghouri emphasized that the girl’s original documents clearly indicate her age as 13.5 years, underscoring the fact that she is not an adult and therefore unable to consent to marriage. He criticized the authorities for failing to take decisive action in response to this egregious violation of the law, urging for swift intervention to ensure justice for Sania and her family.
