Peshawar – October 4, 2025:
A Christian resident of Peshawar, Joseph Shangara, sustained critical injuries after coming under gunfire between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. on Friday night in Charagh Abad, a predominantly Christian locality where he also resides. The incident occurred as he was returning home with his son on a motorcycle.
According to sources close to the family, Shangara’s son Nauman, who was driving the motorcycle, narrowly escaped the attack when an unidentified gunman opened fire from a nearby street leading to their house. Joseph Shangara received multiple bullet wounds to the legs and lower body.
He was immediately shifted to a hospital by his family and fellow Christians from the neighborhood after being hit with several bullets. He remains under medical care in critical condition.
Christian community members of his society described Shangara as a retired worker belonging to a humble family in Charagh Abad Colony, a neighborhood that includes more than a hundred Christian households as well as Muslim families.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting. An investigation is under way.
Bishop of Peshawar, Rt. Rev. Humphrey Sarfaraz Peters, visited Joseph Shangara in the hospital and condemned the attack, expressing solidarity with the victim’s family and the local Christian community.
