In a meeting held on April 30, 2024, in the Committee room of the Law & Justice Ministry in Islamabad, key stakeholders including Mr. Samuel Payara, Chairman of IMRF, and Mr. Adnan Shamim Bhatti Advocate, President of Christian Lawyers Association Pakistan (CLAP), convened with Honorable Mr. Azam Nazir Tarar, the Federal Minister for Law & Justice and Human Rights of Pakistan. The meeting, also attended by Honorable Mr. Emanuel Pervaiz, Advisor to IMRF, focused on addressing seven critical issues, said the press release
The meeting saw the participation of the esteemed legal team of IMRF, comprised of Mr. Kashif Naimet, Mr. Niaz Aamer, Mr. Imran Randhawa, and Ms. Rubeka Niyamat, who engaged in detailed discussions on the following points:
1. Appointment of Christian Marriage Registrar in Pakistan under The Christian Marriage Act, 1872.
2. Legislation concerning the Safety & Health of Sanitary Workers in accordance with directives from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
3. Implementation of National Minority Culture Awards as per Supreme Court directives.
4. Advocacy for changing the marriage age from 13 years to 18 years in the Christian Marriage Act, 1872.
5. Proposal for a 5 Percent Quota in the Appointment of Assistant Advocate General at the Provincial and Assistant Attorney General at the Federal Level.
6. Establishment of a National Commission for Minority Rights.
7. Amendment to The Christian Marriage Act, 1872.
During the deliberations, the legal team of IMRF presented comprehensive arguments to the Federal Minister for Law & Justice, along with Federal Secretary Law & Justice Honorable Mr. Raja Naeem Akbar, and Director General of Human Rights Ministry in Islamabad. The meeting underscored the importance of these issues and sought constructive actions for their resolution.
