Christians across Pakistan joined millions around the world on Sunday to celebrate Easter, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ — a central event in Christian faith symbolizing love, salvation, and the triumph of life over death.

Observed on the third day after Good Friday, Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus following His crucifixion. Believers regard this day as not only a pivotal moment in the Christian faith but also as a message of universal hope, peace, and divine promise for all of humanity.

Churches across the country held special services early Sunday morning, with prayers, hymns, and sermons focusing on the spiritual significance of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. Church bells rang out across cities and towns, echoing the message of renewal and redemption.

“The resurrection of Jesus is more than just a miracle — it is the fulfillment of a divine promise,” said Reverend Samuel John of Lahore’s St. Andrew’s Church. “It reminds us that love, sacrifice, and forgiveness are powerful forces that can overcome even death.”

Clergy across denominations emphasized the inclusive nature of Christ’s message, stating that His sacrifice was not limited to one group or faith. “Jesus gave His life not just for Christians, but for all of humanity — every race, nation, and creed,” said one pastor during his homily.

This year, amid ongoing challenges faced by religious minorities in Pakistan, the message of Easter carried added resonance. Faith leaders called for unity, interfaith harmony, and a renewed commitment to peace and justice.

“Easter is not just about religious celebration. It is a call to action — to live with love, to forgive, to uplift the oppressed, and to reflect the values of compassion and mercy in everyday life,” said Sister Martha of a Christian community center in Rawalpindi.

In many sermons, emphasis was placed on the moral teachings of Jesus, highlighting his endurance, humility, and advocacy for the marginalized. “Jesus did not merely speak of love, He lived it,” said a youth leader during a community gathering. “His example should inspire us to work for a better, more just world.”

Leaders also pointed to the broader spiritual themes shared among major religions. “The core values of love, peace, tolerance, and humanity are common across Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and other faiths,” said a joint interfaith statement issued by religious leaders in Karachi. “The true spirit of Easter aligns with these universal values.”

For many, Easter served not only as a moment of religious reflection but also as a time of recommitment to social and spiritual transformation. Messages shared in churches and on social media urged believers to become a source of light in a world often marred by division and despair.

“The resurrection of Christ reminds us that darkness is never permanent,” said a churchgoer in Faisalabad. “It gives us hope that through faith, love, and sacrifice, we can rise above hate, injustice, and fear.”

As Easter festivities concluded, the message of life’s triumph — rooted in the sacrifice and love of Jesus — echoed in the hearts of the faithful, with a renewed resolve to carry that light into every corner of society.
