Faisalabad: News Desk
A Christian laborer in Pakistan was publicly humiliated after being accused of stealing wood, his family said. The incident took place on February 27 in Chak 110-GB Chak Jhumra, Faisalabad District, where a group of Muslim landowners allegedly abducted and mistreated 34-year-old Wasif George. His brother, Patras George, stated that the attackers shaved his head and facial hair, blackened his face, and paraded him through the village on the back of a donkey.
According to Patras George, Wasif had just returned home from work when his mother asked him to gather wood for cooking. While collecting fallen branches near a canal, he was confronted by Junaid Javed, Tetar Ul Haq, Jahanzeb Javed, and Naeem Saleem, who accused him of theft. Patras George alleged that the assailants took Wasif to a poultry farm owned by Junaid Javed, where they beat him and had a barber, identified as Razzaq, shave his head and facial hair.
The assailants then blackened Wasif’s face and forced him onto a donkey, parading him through the village. Patras George said the entire village witnessed the incident but did not intervene, as the attackers were armed and threatened to shoot anyone who tried to stop them. The attackers also warned villagers against recording the incident on their phones.
Following the incident, Wasif has fallen into depression and told his family he wanted to end his life, his brother said.
The victims family has called on Punjab’s chief minister and senior police officials to take notice of the attack and support them in seeking legal action against the perpetrators.
Local police have not yet commented on the incident, and it remains unclear whether any legal action has been taken against those accused.
