Faisalabad:
A 32-year-old Christian woman, Saima, is facing allegations of blasphemy after a Pathan family accused her of desecrating the Holy Quran in Gojra. The incident began when the Muslim Pathan family requested a sack from their Christian neighbors. After receiving the sake, they claimed to have found torn pages of the Holy Quran within it and raised accusations against Saima.
The Pathan family alerted the local community, which led to a mob forming and charging Saima and her family with blasphemy. As the news spread, Saima fled and hid in nearby crop fields. She was later chased and tortured by the mob. Police arrived at the scene and took Saima and her family into custody to protect their lives.
Following the incident, an FIR was registered against Saima under Section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code, which pertains to blasphemy.
In response to the incident, the mob blocked roads and demanded further action against Saima.
Akmal Bhatti, Advocate and Chairman of the Minorities Alliance Pakistan, visited both the site of the incident and the police station. Bhatti stated that the charges are baseless and motivated by ulterior motives from the Muslim neighbors.
He called for a fair investigation in accordance with Section 156 of the Cr.P.C. and urged the police to resist mob pressure.
Bhatti also demanded justice for Saima and her family and called for the arrest of those who made the allegations for further investigation into the matter.
