The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed grave concern over two alleged extrajudicial killings involving individuals accused of blasphemy. The incidents, which took place in Quetta and Umarkot, have raised alarms about a disturbing trend of violence in blasphemy cases, reportedly involving law enforcement personnel.
In Quetta, a hotel owner was allegedly killed while in police custody, and in Umarkot, a doctor lost his life during a police raid. Both individuals had been accused of blasphemy. The HRCP has called for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the doctor’s death in Umarkot, urging the government to hold those responsible accountable.
The commission also highlighted a broader issue, pointing to the rising radicalization in the country, which it says has historically been fueled by state-sponsored initiatives. The HRCP stressed the need for the state to address this growing extremism to prevent further such incidents.
