14th August, Peshawar:
A special Independence Day service was held today at All Saints Church, Kohati Gate, Peshawar, in celebration of August 14. The service, led by Reverend Shehzad Murad, Vicar Incharge of All Saints Church, and attended by the parish’s distinguished members, included prayers for the safety and progress of the country. The service also highlighted the role of Christians in the struggle for independence.
During the service, it was noted that Christian leaders played a crucial role during the partition of Punjab, with their decisive votes contributing to the formation of present-day Punjab as part of Pakistan. The contribution of Pakistani Christians to the nation’s development and progress has been significant and honorable, particularly in the fields of education, health, sports, and both civil and military institutions.
Many individuals who graduated from Christian institutions hold high positions in sectors like healthcare, education, the police, and the military, and have brought pride to the nation on an international level. These individuals often credit their educational backgrounds for their success.
After the service, a cake-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate Independence Day, followed by a solidarity rally that started from the church, passed through Kochi Bazaar, and concluded at Qissa Khwani Bazaar. Later, Reverend Shehzad Murad and parish members, in collaboration with the Forestry Department, participated in a tree-planting ceremony at the Peshawar Zoo.
