Lakeland, Florida – July 2, 2025 — Mayor Bill Mutz of Lakeland has officially declared July 2 as “Khaan Junaid Day” in recognition of the contributions of Pakistani Christian youth leader Khaan Junaid Saqib, who has dedicated over two decades to the cause of human rights.
The proclamation honors Saqib’s 22 years of service as Chairman of the Pakistan International Minority Rights Commission and acknowledges his efforts in advocating for minority and human rights both in Pakistan and internationally. He is the first Pakistani national to receive such a proclamation from a U.S. city.
The ceremony, held in Lakeland, was attended by a diverse group of dignitaries, including candidates for the U.S. Congress, local officials, and international representatives from countries including Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Iran, Jordan, and Germany.
In his remarks at the event, Saqib expressed gratitude to Mayor Mutz and all participants. He also called on the U.S. government to consider easing visa policies for Christian asylum seekers and university students, urging expanded support through Christian academic institutions. Several dignitaries present voiced support for the proposal and pledged to work toward advancing the initiative.
