Islamabad, March 30, 2025:
Leaders of the All Pakistan Minorities Movement have strongly condemned the Capital Development Authority (CDA) over the termination of daily wage workers and unpaid salaries. Speaking to the affected workers, Chairman Nadeem Bhatti highlighted the severe financial distress they face, emphasizing that these individuals depend on their modest earnings to cover essential expenses. Many workers displayed their unpaid utility bills and reported falling behind on their monthly housing rent.
The protest, involving approximately 400 workers, underscores the urgent need for government intervention. These workers, hired through Amjad Ali Company, were dismissed without prior notice on December 31, 2024, leaving them struggling to meet daily expenses and support their families.
The CDA claims the contractor is responsible for payments, while the contractor asserts he cannot pay until the CDA clears its dues. Workers were laid off without sufficient time to secure alternative employment. Officials have allegedly issued threats instead of offering assistance to the affected workers.
Many workers were deprived of their Christmas salaries and now face further difficulties with Easter approaching. Despite repeated efforts to seek help, workers’ pleas have largely been ignored.
Authorities must ensure workers receive their rightful wages without delay. The CDA and the contractor must be held responsible for unpaid wages and abrupt terminations. A sustainable solution should be introduced to support affected employees and prevent future occurrences.
The situation remains critical, with workers demanding urgent action to safeguard their rights and livelihoods. The government’s response in the coming days will determine whether justice is served for these vulnerable employees.
