Multan, November 4, 2025:
The MNS University of Agriculture, Multan (MNSUAM) has formally apologized for a controversial presentation during a student event that depicted a character dressed as a “Nun,” which drew criticism from members of the Christian community.
In an official letter addressed to Mr. Falbous Christopher, Member Provincial Assembly and Chairman of the Standing Committee for Human Rights and Minorities, Punjab, the university expressed regret over the incident, acknowledging that the portrayal—though based on a fictional Hollywood character—had unintentionally hurt the religious sentiments of Christians in Pakistan.
Registrar Somiya Ambreen, in the apology issued on behalf of the university, stated:
“We fully recognize that the Nun symbolizes faith, devotion, and service in Christianity, and that the Cross holds sacred significance at the heart of Christian belief. There was no intention whatsoever to disrespect or mock any religion, its symbols, or followers.”
The university termed the act an “oversight” and outlined several corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
These include:
Establishing a formal review mechanism for events involving cultural or religious elements.
Consulting representatives of various faith communities to ensure inclusivity and respect.
Conducting awareness and training programs for faculty and students on interfaith harmony and sensitivity.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the university’s commitment to promoting unity and respect among all faiths:
“We once again offer our heartfelt apology to the Christian community and assure our sincere efforts to uphold the principles of respect, unity, and harmony.”
Copies of the apology were also forwarded to Mr. Sohail Alam, Member of the Minority Advisory Council, Government of Punjab; the Principal Officer of Student Affairs; and the Secretary to the Vice Chancellor.
