On Thursday, April 25, 2024, the United Kingdom announced a substantial increase in aid to Pakistan, with a specific focus on marginalized groups and minority communities. The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Pakistani Minorities, after three years of advocacy, successfully secured a parliamentary debate to discuss the allocation of aid to Pakistani minorities. Lord Alton, the Co-Chair of the APPG, spearheaded this effort to raise concerns of minorities within the UK government, said the press release
The parliamentary debate, scheduled for April 25, presents a crucial opportunity to address the issues faced by minority groups. Various members of the House of Lords are expected to participate, with a representative from the Foreign Office present to listen and respond to the concerns raised. Morris Johns, the Secretary of the APPG, has prepared briefings for all speakers, covering topics such as education scholarships for Christian girls, combating forced conversions and marriages, liberation of bonded laborers, and the removal of hate material from school textbooks.
Other areas of focus include inclusive education through teacher training, police officer training, denationalization of Christian educational institutions, provision of basic facilities in minority areas, and support for sewer workers. The debate aims to openly discuss these pressing matters affecting millions of people and draw the attention of the British government, states the presser
Individuals with additional issues to be addressed in the debate are encouraged to contact Morris Johns promptly at [email protected] or [email protected].
