A groundbreaking three-day training program, “Trash into Cash: Building a Green Business Model in Solid Waste Management,” concluded successfully, highlighting innovative approaches to managing solid waste and fostering sustainable business models.
The training, organized by the Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI), brought together professionals, entrepreneurs, academics, and students to explore the untapped economic potential of waste and its role in sustainable development. The event aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge about solid waste management (SWM) technologies, market dynamics, and strategies for building green business ventures.
The program attracted a diverse mix of participants, including health sector Ph.D. holders, university professors, startup innovators, green business owners, nonprofit representatives, and students. This diverse group engaged in collaborative discussions and shared ideas on addressing Pakistan’s waste management challenges.
Key Highlights of the Program:
Day 1: Participants were introduced to fundamental concepts such as solid waste management, the circular economy, and resource efficiency. Sessions also focused on recycling and upcycling techniques, encouraging participants to brainstorm green business ideas.
Day 2: Discussions centered on operational challenges and strategic planning for sustainable waste management. Topics included e-waste, construction waste management, and composting as potential revenue streams. Interactive activities guided participants in designing green business models tailored to Pakistan’s unique needs.
Day 3: The final day covered financing opportunities and action planning. Experts provided guidance on securing grants, forming partnerships with investors, and crafting compelling business proposals. The event concluded with a certificate ceremony, acknowledging the efforts of all participants.
