A one day workshop was organized in the district Okara to sensitised local journalists regarding the sensitivities of marginalised voters, including, women, religious minorities, transgenders and Physically challenged persons as part of the electoral process. The workshop was conducted by the CJAP regional representatives of Okara in collaboration with welfare organisations, FAFN, TDEA, FDO, at the Okara Election Commission Office.
The Trainers of workshop Madam Jubilee Hanzai of (TDEA), Muhammad Abdullah from (FDO) and Social Mobilization Officer Samira Yusuf FDO, explained in detail the sensitivities of marginalised reporting along with ethical considerations and social responsibilities of journalists, while exploring Election Act 2017 and the ethical Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission.
Election Commission Officer Okara indulged in an interactive session with journalists articulated that on election day, journalists play an important role with their factual, ethical and unbiased reporting in accordance with the law and ethical code of conduct.
Furthermore, he added that, journalist while reporting in elections must cooperate to behave well with government employees in duties and election staff.
Stressing on the positive and responsible, he termed the role of Journalists pivotal in successful and peaceful elections the community of Okara district.
