LAHORE (PR) :
In a significant move to enhance its family-oriented facilities, the YMCA in Lahore has inaugurated a gymnasium exclusively for women, marking a first since its establishment in 1879. The inaugural ceremony was officiated by Mrs. Rina Nadeem Kamran, wife of the Bishop of Lahore, Rt. Rev. Nadeem Kamran. The event also saw the attendance of Asia Pacific Female Weightlifting champions and YMCA brand ambassadors Twinkle Sohail, Cybil Sohail, and Veronica Sohail.
YMCA President Mr. Asghar Suleman welcomed the guests, while General Secretary Emanuel Sarfraz explained the initiative’s importance. “While a women’s gym may be commonplace in the West, this step by the YMCA in Pakistan is revolutionary,” Sarfraz stated.
Recognized by the Punjab Government as one of the best NGOs for children of all backgrounds and religions in 2022, the YMCA continues to expand its role in empowering women and youth. The newly opened gym, named Sarah’s, will be accessible to YMCA members and their families six days a week.
It is notable that the space where the gym has been established was vacated from illegal occupation in 2022.
