A tribute event honoring Shahbaz Bhatti, Pakistan’s former Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs, was held on 26 April 2026 in Amsterdam. The gathering was organized by the Social Wing of the Holland Urdu Church during the visit of his brother, Peter Bhatti.

The event brought together members of the Pakistani Christian diaspora, faith leaders, and human rights advocates to commemorate Bhatti’s life, legacy, and advocacy for religious freedom and minority rights in Pakistan.

Shahbaz Bhatti, who was assassinated in 2011, was widely recognized for his stance against the misuse of blasphemy laws and his efforts to protect vulnerable communities, including religious minorities and marginalized labor groups. Speakers at the event highlighted his role in advocating social justice and equal rights.

 

Christian rights activist Joseph Janssen, addressing the audience, described Bhatti as a committed advocate who remained steadfast in his principles. He referenced Bhatti’s public statements on faith and sacrifice, noting their significance in the context of his work and eventual assassination.

During the event, participants raised concerns about ongoing human rights issues in Pakistan and noted that these issues remain a point of concern for international human rights organizations. The “Save Our Daughters” campaign was also highlighted, with calls for increased awareness on minority women Rights.

The event concluded with calls to continue Bhatti’s legacy through advocacy, policy engagement, and efforts to promote religious freedom and human rights protections.
